Wednesday Feb 29 '12What is Drupal? Watch this Video!

With the help of the Drupal Association, UK-based Drupal consultant Steve Purkiss commissioned a short film to be created explaining a little bit about how the community working with Drupal makes it attractive.

We totally concur with the message - since having worked with Drupal now for about 5-6 years, it has become our preferred platform for developing web solutions and with it, we've built all sorts of web sites and applications (check out our client projects and incubator.)

*The video in this post was shot at the 2011 Brighton Digital Festival as part of a Drupal Discovery Day organized by Steve Purkiss was produced by Larchmont Films.

Every now and again we get asked for recommendations of ways people and organizations can exhibit their creative work online using their own website.

When our introduction.io hosted platform for portfolios/creative sites doesn't fit the bill we often suggest these folks check out Wordpress; an easy-to-install blogging platform with some great free and affordable/'premium' templates to help get up-and-running quickly.

For anyone interested in creating their own portfolio website, here are 10 of the most interesting themes you can use with Wordpress (in no particular order.)

Tuesday Feb 21 '12Steve Jobs at the Computer History Museum in 1980

See video

I just came across this video of Steve Jobs giving a presentation in 1980 - this was just 4 years after Apple was founded and 4 years before the first graphical Mac OS was released.  In the video Steve claims Apple is concerned with using increasing processing power of computers to make their use easier but doesn't specifically explain how that will happen; looking back it seems to me that he was hinting at the importance of a useable operating system.

Interestingly, this video reminds me that Apple has really focused on one approach to computing in most of its products since 1980; making things simple and thus usable; from the 'Classic' Mac OS to iOs (as used on today Apple's mobile devices.)
